The butterfly valve is a rotary valve in which a disk-shaped seating element is turned 90 degrees to open or seal the flow path. It can be left half open or closed to throttle flow. Butterfly valves are not suitable for applications requiring a clear, complete opening. Installation requires the use of flanges. There is no need for gaskets because they already have a rubber seal.
